Managing data bases with Microsoft Access

Goals
Acquiring practical skills for building and managing data bases. Creating queries, building forms for inputting data and reports for printing the query results from the data base.

Curriculum
Chapter 1.  Building tables
Defining the tables' structure. Setting data types. Characteristics of fields and setting restrictions and data validation rules. Importing and exporting data. Indexing fields in tables Sorting and filtering data in tables.

Chapter 2. Defining relationships between fields in a table
Choosing a field(s) to act as a primary key. Creating relationships between tables. Types of relations between tables. Settings of the relationships. Types of relations between fields in the tables. 

Chapter 3. Creating queries for data extraction from tables
Creating and editing queries from the following types: selection, parametric, cross-queries, action queries, finding duplicate records, summary and formula queries. Adding and editing criteria.

Chapter 4. Creating and editing forms
Using forms to add and edit data. Grouping and sorting data. Adding summary rows. Desiging forms. Editing forms and adding controls. Creating and setting controls from the following types: Combo Box, List Box, Subform. Adding calculations in forms. Data representation with diagrams.


Chapter 5. Printing reports
Priting reports based on table data. Postioning data in reports. Editing reports and controls formatting. Adding summary calculations and calculations with formulas and functions.
